Biography

Born in 1935 as Christo Javacheff in Gabrovo/Bulgaria and Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon in Casablanca/Morocco.
1953-1956 Christo studies at the Academy of Arts in Sofia, 1957 for one semester at the Academy of Arts in Vienna 
1958 Moves to Paris, where he meets his future wife and marries her in 1960
1964 moves to New York
1968 Participates in documenta 4, Kassel
The artist couple realises numerous projects, among others 1983 "Surrounded Islands", Florida, 1985 Covered Pont Neuf, Paris, 1986-91 The Umbrellas", Japan - USA  
1995 First solo exhibition at the Galerie Georg Nothelfer
Jeanne-Claude dies in New York in 2009
Christo dies in New York in 2020

Christo & Jeanne Claude are known for their wrapping actions on buildings and large-scale projects in landscapes, industrial objects or well-known buildings. Together, the artists have planned their projects worldwide since the 1960s. In Germany, the artist couple became popular especially through the wrapping of the Reichstag in Berlin in 1995. Jeanne-Claude and Christo had to work persistently for 23 years until the Reichstag in Berlin was wrapped.
