Lives and works in Berlin

Oliver Thie is dedicated to the possibilities of drawing. He moves in a broad spectrum from sketchy, gestural abbreviations to the most detailed expressions. His central concern is to explore natural phenomena and perceptual experiences through various modes of representation. Thie expands the classical means of drawing with his own materials and methods, which allow him to access his respective subject. For example, he transfers shadow projections into self-produced soot coatings or approaches the microcosm with the help of optical instruments. Thie's "Drawing Research" aims to gain insights by aesthetic means. In long-term projects he cooperates with scientists and takes up scientific research questions with artistic strategies in order to confront them with alternative points of view.
