At this year’s “Hallen 07” art festival in the Wilhelm Hallen, Galerie Nothelfer is presenting a room-filling ensemble of artworks that bridges the gap between gestural abstraction and constructivist clarity.
Drawing on a long tradition in which Nothelfer has made a name for itself since 1971 as a key representative of postwar abstract expressionism with European and German influences—the Informel—the gallery now also presents young, contemporary artists who engage with the legacy of the postwar period.
By juxtaposing the painterly approaches of Gerhard Hoehme, Fred Thieler,
K.R.H. Sonderborg, and Walter Stöhrer—spanning from the early 1960s through the 1980s—with a large-scale architectural installation by MK Kaehne from the 2010s, we invite visitors on a journey through recent art history to trace the influence of the past on the artistic language of the present.
