The exhibition *Follow the White Rabbit* playfully brings together historical works of postwar abstraction with contemporary collectible design and installation-based works from the contemporary art scene. At its core is the dialogue between the dynamic, gestural painting of the Informel movement—represented by K.R.H. Sonderborg and Walter Stöhrer — and objects that transcend the boundaries of functional design. While Sonderborg’s technically dynamic structures and Stöhrer’s emotionally controlled approach break with traditional painting conventions, the design works seek a direct relationship to sculptural space.

Gisbert Pöppler’s works exhibit a distinctly graphic and painterly quality and straddle the boundary between applied art and sculpture. Heike Buchfelder, in turn, transforms functional materials into organic, spatially expansive objects through precise surface treatments. MK Kaehne plays a key role at this intersection: drawing on painting, he reflects on the utility and limits of art and design in his architectural-constructivist installations and surreal object inversions. The convergence of these disciplines represents a first in the gallery’s program and deliberately breaks with the conventional distinction between fine art and applied art.
Despite historical reservations about combining the two genres, this juxtaposition reveals surprising affinities in structure, form, and process. The works are not presented as mere functional objects, but as autonomous aesthetic statements. This creates a field of tension that subtly shifts the reality of the exhibition space and challenges viewing habits. Under the title *Follow the White Rabbit*, the exhibition invites visitors to move beyond rigid categorizations and explore new avenues of thought.
